Mrs. William Purdon Dies Sunday at Minneapolis Home
Pioneer Woman To be Buried Here Wednesday from Home of Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Barber

Interment To be in Fairview Cemetery Beside Body of Husband, Major William Purdon
Word has reached Wahpeton of the death on Sunday January 28th, of Mrs. William R. Purdon, following an illness of several months. Mrs. Purdon is well known among the older residents of the city, having come from Willoughby, Ohio to Wahpeton in 1890, the bride of Major Wm. R. Purdon. During her residence here, Mr. Purdon was a member of the merchandising firm of James Purdon & Co., an active member of the fire company served captain of Co.”I” in the Phillippines, continued as Major in the North Dakota National Guard and represented this district in the State Legislature.
Mrs. Purdon was a charter member of the Woman’s Literary Society and continued her interest until she left the city. Both Mr. and Mrs. Purdon were very active members of the First Congregational Church and were prominent in social and civic activities of the community. Mrs. Purdon was ever a devoted wife and mother, nevertheless was able to spend much time in indulging in her artistic ability in oil and china panting in which she excelled. Some years of her early widowhood were spent in California while her son and daughter were attending the University of California at Berkeley. Her only son, Arthur H. Purdon lives at Springfield Gardens, N.Y, and with his wife recently visited his mother in Minneapolis coming to Wahpeton for a day. The death occurred at the home of her daughter, Ethel, now Mrs. George Manikowske at 517 11th Ave. SE. Minneapolis. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday afternoon in Minneapolis. Rev. P I. Gregory, pastor of the First Congregational Church of which Mrs. Purdon is a member officiating.
Mr. and Mrs. Geo Manikowske will accompany the remains to Wahpeton, where a brief service will be held at the home of Mrs. Purdon’s cousins, Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Barber, at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday to which friends are invited. Rev. James S. Caskey, Pastor of First Congregational church, Wahpeton will officiate. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery where the body of Major Purdon now lies.
