Obituary
Gordon A. Paape
Services for Gordon A. Paape, 61, of Wahpeton will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church with Rev. Marvin L. Hartmann officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Paape died Saturday at St. Francis Hospital, Breckenridge.
Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening and Tuesday until 11 a.m. at Vertin's Wahpeton Funeral Home. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Monday. There will also be visitation one hour prior to services at the church.
Honorary casket bearers will be Richard Cook, Dr. George Murray, Palmer Skorheim, Delbert Tschakert, Raymond Pazdernik, Dorval Schmidt, Oscar Krause, Dr. David Rosenberg, John Quinn, Pat Milloy, Rick Erickson, and Charles Bergquist.
Active casket bearers will be Harold Diederich, Franklin McCullough, Donavan Folden, Dr. T.C. Askland, Herman Becker, and Estes Simmer.
Gordon A. Paape was born May 30, 1915 at Hankinson to Otto and Martha (Pankow) Paape. He moved with his parents to Breckenridge at the age of two and to Wahpeton at the age of 12. He attended local schools.
He married Irene Halvorson Aug. 2, 1938 at Breckenridge. He was employed as a meat cutter in Wahpeton stores. He joined the postal service in 1942. He served in the army in Japan in 1945-46, returning to the postal service as a rural mail carrier. He retired in 1975 due to failing health. He had completed 33 years of service in post office.
He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, the Wahpeton American Legion, and the Wahpeton Elks.
Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Carl (Jeannine) Iverson of Alexandria, Minn.; one son, Dr. William Paape of Bismarck; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.
