Lieut. Sansom Missing In Action In South Pacific
Former Wahpeton Man Was Co-pilot Of B-29 Super Fortress
First Lieutenant Jack R. Sansom, aged 25, was reported missing in action in a telegram received by Mrs. Walter Dahlgren from his wifeFriday morning. He was in the South Pacific theatre of action and was missing April 24th.
The former Wahpeton man was stationed on Saipan and was co-pilot of a B-29 Super Fortress. He had been on missions over Tokyo,Nagoya, Kyushyu and Iwo Jima and was on his 16th trip.
The foster son of Mrs. Dahlgren and the late Mr. Dahlgren of this city, Jack had received his education in Wahpeton schools until his final year in high school when the family moved to Bemidji and he graduated from that high school and later attended State Teachers College there.
He entered service five years ago and was stationed at Randolph Field with the ground forces, later taking cadet training at Maxwell Field, Ala., and being commissioned at Columbus, Miss., last year. He went overseas with the Army Air Force in December.
His wife, the former Vivian Maxfield, is making her home in north St. Paul.
