Obituary
Ernest John Schoeneck, prominent pioneer farmer passed away at his farm home Saturday morning. Death was caused by a stroke. He had always enjoyed good health, with the exception of the past two or three years.
He died at the age of 75 and would have been 76 on Dec. 27.
Born 1872 in Posen Germany, he came to Wahpeton with parents and family as a boy of twelve. He worked on his father’s farm and was employed on the railroad previous to his marriage and started on a farm of his own shortly after.
He married Alvina Schroeder of Great Bend on Feb. 14, 1900, at the Great Bend Trinity Lutheran church by the late Rev. Theo. Hinck.
He was a charter member of the Immanuel Lutheran church (one of two remaining). He held various office in his church as a deacon and trustee but retired the past few years.
He is survived by his wife, eleven children and two grandchildren. The following children are living at home: Robert, Ernest, Rudolph, Corrine, Nore, Alvin and Edwin.
One married daughter, Mrs. Adolph Novotny, living in Breckenridge. Three married sons are Henry of Breckenridge, Minn., William of Wahpeton August of New Haven, Conn. Two grandchildren survive.
Three sisters are: Mrs. Anna Nowak, of Moorhead, Minn., Mrs. Philip Raiter, Wahpeton and Mrs. Ottillia Boettcher of Breckenridge, Minn.
Four sisters preceded him in death. Services were held at Immanuel Lutheran church Wednesday p.m. with Rev. Henry Fry officiating. He was laid to rest in Fairview cemetery beside his parents.
