Youthful Accident Victim Buried Here Thursday

Funeral for Dale Schultz Conducted from Bethel Church

Dale Schultz victim of the tractor tragedy near Great Bend Sunday afternoon, was buried Thursday afternoon from the Bethel Lutheran church here Thursday with Rev. P. A. Gisvold officiating. Burial was in Fairview cemetery. The 18-year-old boy was killed when the tractor he was riding overturned on the county road north of Great Bend. The body was taken to Schmidt & Olson chapel.

Dale Richard Schultz was born February 8, 1931, at Wahpeton. He was baptized in infancy at Dwight by Rev. S. C. B. Knutsen and confirmed by Rev. P. A. Gisvold at Wahpeton in June, 1945.

He attended grade school at Dwight and a rural school in the Wahpeton vicinity. He resided at home except for the week prior to his death when he was employed at the Gordon Luick farm two miles north of Great Bend. He was enroute from a field near Great Bend and was traveling along the right side of the road.

Coroner Frank Schmitt said that the front wheel of the all-purpose tractor jackknifed and that the tractor went over pinning the lad beneath the tractor seat. Death was instantaneous. No inquest was ordered.

Left to mourn are Dale’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Shultz, who live south of Wahpeton, two brothers, James and John, Jr., at home, and two sisters, Mrs. Earl (Joyce) Tobias of Wahpeton and Lyla Rose at home.Pallbearers were Gerald Van Cleave, Elwood Lund, Merlin Lund, Myron Reese, Gordon Thiel and Carl Lund.
