Obituary
Lena Schwankl
Funeral services for Lena (Mrs. John) Schwankl, 95, of Lynwood, Wash.; and formerly of Breckenridge, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton with Rev. Edward Rutter officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Wahpeton.
Mrs. Schwankl died Tuesday at Lynwood.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge and one hour prior to services at the church.
Casket bearers will be Erwin and Roy Lorens, William Lundgren, Milo Rossow, Jerry Shieb and Cliff Speral.
Lena Witt was born Aug. 28, 1879 at Belle Plaine, Minn. to Ludwig and Wilhelmina Witt.
She married John Schwankl Nov. 3, 1903, and the couple lived at Pierz, Minn., for a few years. They then moved to Hankinson, later to Wyndmere and to Breckenridge in 1917 where he was employed by the Great Northern Railroad. He preceded her in death in 1964. She moved to Washington in 1967 where she has lived ever since.
Survivors include two daughters, Caroline Zehren of Fargo and Mrs. Fred (Helen) Nieforth of Lynwood, Wash.; four sons, Carlton of Marysville, Wash., Elroy of Breckenridge, Orville of Mankato, and Wilfred of Fergus Falls; 17 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Christina; a son, Elmer; a granddaughter; and four brothers and three sisters.
Arrangements were with Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge.
