Obituary

Andrew Simonson, Long in Richland, Dies on Tuesday

Andrew Simonson, 65 longtime North Dakota resident, who formerly lived in Wahpeton until moving to Hankinson a year ago, died Tuesday at St. Gerard’s hospital in Hankinson where he had been a patient since June 18. He had been in ill health the past three years.

Born May 2, 1891, at Oslo, Norway, he came to the United States with his brother to Finley, N.D., when 11 years old. He worked for relatives in that community.

He married Cecil Anderson of Dwight on Oct. 1 1923 at Bessmere, Mich., and the couple moved to Wahpeton where he was employed at the Ford Garage and later for the Byerly Construction Co. Since 1943 he had worked for the Otter Tail Power Co.

Besides his wife he leaves six daughters and three sons. They are: Mrs. Lyle (Mildred) McManigle of St. Paul, Mrs. Alton (Carol) Berndt of Tyler, Mrs. Robert (Gloria) Halgunseth of Wolverton, Mrs. Gerald (Darlene) Dickerson of Colfax Kenneth of St. Paul, Donald of Absaraka, N.D., and Mary, Roy and Katherine, all at home.

He also leaves a brother, Nels Hogfas of Wahpeton, a sister, Mrs. Caroline Salom of Roseau, Minn., and 14 grandchildren. Two sons died in infancy.

Funeral services will be held at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton with Rev. P. A. Gisvold officiating. Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. Vertin Funeral Home of Wahpeton is handling arrangements and interment will be in Fairview Cemetery here.
