Joseph E. Smith Drops Dead While Working Monday
Wahpeton Resident For 12 Years Dies on Breckenridge Job
Joseph E. Smith, Wahpeton resident the past 12 years, dropped dead while making a delivery at the Paul Affield home in Breckenridge this morning. He had been suffering from heart trouble and a sudden attack caused his death.
He was employed by the Three Star Oil Company in Breckenridge. Funeral services have not been completed pending word from his sons but will be held from Immanuel Lutheran church in this city, of which he was an active member.
Joseph Earl Smith was born at Maple Lake Minn., in 1896. He spent his boyhood there and moved to Kulm; with his parents as a young man. He was married at Sisseton, S D in 1917 and established his home at Claire City, S. D.
He then entered the army and served in World War I.
At the end of the war he received vocational training at Brookings, S. D., and then lived in Brainerd, Minn., several years. He came to North Dakota after that and the family resided at Rutland until 12 years ago when they moved to Wahpeton.
Surviving, in addition to Mrs. Smith, are three sons: LeRoy of Los Angeles; Harvey of Davenport, Iowa., and Elmer of Bismarck, all World War II veterans. There are two daughters, Rose Marie and Mavis at home.
In addition one sister survives, Mrs. John Strege of Lidgerwood, and one brother, Wilbur Smith of Appam.
