Mrs. A. C. Smith Dies Friday After Lengthy Illness

Funeral Services Conducted Monday for Well Known Woman

Suffering considerable discomfort due to illnesses that had confined her to her home for eighteen months, Mrs. A. C. Smith passed away at her home Friday night shortly before the midnight hour. Death was due to a cerebral hemorrhage. She had been ill eighteen months.

Sarah Gertrude Olson was born in Rice Lake, Wis., February 23, 1882. She lived in that community with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. K. J. Olson, until she was sixteen years of age. She then went to South Dakota, where she made her home with her sister, Mrs. Otto Tilja, at Groton.

A few years later she met A. C. Smith at Groton and their romance culminated into their marriage which took place September 16th, 1912. From there Mr. and Mrs. Smith went to Milnor, where they lived until the year of 1922 when they moved to Wahpeton and where they have made their home ever since.

To this union four children were born, Clayton 19, Lilas 18, Jeanne 16, and Patricia 14, all at home who with her husband and four sisters, Mrs. Otto Lilja, Claremont, S. D., Mrs. F. F. Honey, Putney, S.D., Mrs. A. W. Weiss of Virginia, Minn., and Mrs. Harold Honey of Sutton, this state, survive.

Mrs. Smith’s friends were numbered by all who knew her. Ministering unto the wants of her family, she, with the assistance of her husband reared a fine family, who will find the loss of their mother a difficult cross to bear.

During her residence in this city, Mrs. Smith was a member of the Congregational church and was active in the affairs of that church. For years she was a member of the church choir and acted as superintendent of the primary department of the church Sunday school.

Funeral services were held this (Monday) afternoon from the Congregational church at 2:30 o’clock with Rev. R. D. Hall officiating. Burial was made in the Fairview cemetery.

Pallbearers were R. J. Thurlow, Steve Krvzaniak, C. M. Comstock, A.J. Hausauer, J. G. Forbes and D. D. Swank.
