Obituary
Porter Snyder
Funeral services for Porter A. Snyder, 89, of Wahpeton will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Stanley Mueller officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.
Mr. Snyder died Thursday at St. Francis Hospital, Breckenridge.
Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening and Saturday until 11 a.m. at Vertin's Wahpeton Funeral Home. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Friday. There will also be visitation one hour prior to services at the church.
Honorary casket bearers will be Michael Fogarty, A. W. Luick, Leonard Osborn, George Bickerdike, Glenn Willis, Paul Walter, Lowell Caulkins, and Alfred Biggs, Jr.
Active casket bearers will be Donald Evenson, Fred Snyder, Jr., Art Snyder, Jr., Donald and Rodney Voss and Robert Nelson.
Porter A. Snyder was born May 2, 1885 at Durand, Ill. to Fred and Elizabeth (Hargrave) Snyder.
He spend his boyhood at Mason City, Ia. and as a young man moved with his parents to a farm in LaMars Township near Fairmount, N.D. He farmed with his brother, Fred, until he moved to Rasseau, Minn. and farmed there for five years. He then bough the farm in LaMars Township where his son now farms. He retired in 1957 and bought a home in Wahpeton. He has lived at the Leach Home since November, 1969.
He was married to Julia Voss June 14, 1911. She died April 14, 1969.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, LaMars School board where he served at treasurer, and secretary and township assessor for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Roy of Wahpeton and John of Fairmount; a daughter, Mrs. Burt (Florence) Burvee of Fairmount; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Evenson of Battle Lake, Minn.; and two brothers, Fred Snyder, Sr. of Fairmount and Arthur of Willmar, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers; and one sister.
Vertin's Wahpeton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
