Obituary

Last Rites Here Wednesday for Mrs. Sorenson

Last rites were conducted here Wednesday afternoon for Mrs. Andrew (Lena Sanck) Sorenson, 72, former Richland County resident who died Sunday at Fort Dodge, Iowa, after a lengthy illness. Services were at Schmitt-Poulton Funeral Chapel with Rev. Henry Fry officiating.

Burial was in Fairview Cemetery with six nephews as pallbearers. They are Harold Mayer and Dale, Gordon, Harry, Wilfred and Marvin Thimjon.

Services had previously been held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Fort Dodge. Coming to Wahpeton for the burial service were her husband, three sons and a sister.

Born Oct. 4, 1882 in Lake City, Minn., Lena Thimjon, daughter of Fred and Anna Thimjon came to Summit Township in Richland County, with her parents when a small child. She attended Richland schools and grew to womanhood here. She married William Sanck, Oct. 14, 1904 and to this union four children were born – Ralph, Ervin, Curtis and Evelyn. The latter died in 1929. Mr. Sanck passed away in 1924.

In 1934, she moved to Iowa and in 1935 was married to Herman Fitzner at Duncombe, Iowa.

They moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa in 1940 where she had lived since. Mr. Fitzner died in 1942 and in 1947 she was married to Andrew Sorensen.

While in Wahpeton she was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons: Ralph of Racine, Wis., Ervin and Curtis of Fort Dodge; a brother L. J. Thimjon of rural Wahpeton: three sisters, Mrs. John Brummond of Hankinson, Mrs. Dan Cryan of Houston, Texas and Mrs. B. H. Medenwald of Hoquiam, Wash. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Evelyn; two brothers and a sister.
