Alice Striffler

UNDERWOOD, Minn. - Alice Striffler, 72, rural Underwood, formerly of the Doran area, died Wednesday at her East Lost Lake home. The funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Vertin's Wahpeton Funeral Home, the Rev. Marvin L. Hartmann officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Wahpeton.

Visitation is this afternoon and evening (Friday) and Saturday until the time of the service.

Honorary casket bearers are all grandsons and will be Ronald Meyer, Jerry Gully, Jr., Ken, Kurtis and Keith Swenson, Guy Striffler and Larry McMasters.

Alice Stewlow was born July 1, 1907 at Doran, Minn., the daughter of Fred and Caroline (Geilow) Stewlow. She was raised in the Doran area and attended local schools. She married Carl Striffler and lived in Doran and Wahpeton. She was employed as a cook at the Wahpeton Hotel many years. In 1955, when the hotel closed, she moved to East Lost Lake. She worked as a cook in Fergus Falls and at the 78 Club on Otter Tail Lake. She retired in 1973.

She is survived by a son, Gerald, Wahpeton; four daughters, Mrs. Ken (Helen) Solberg, Williston, N.D., Mrs. Henry (Hazel) Holtgrewe, New Brighton, Minn., Mrs. Jerry (Lois) Gully, Mantador, Mrs. Rodney (Leona) McMasters, Vancouver, Wash.; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Tony (Helen) Smith, Wahpeton, Mrs. Edna Lein, Backus, Minn.; and one brother, Arthur Stewlow, who resides at the Leach Home in Wahpeton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons and one daughter.
