Obituary

William 'Bill' Sturma, 90, longtime Wahpeton resident

The funeral service for William "Bill" J. Sturma, 90, Wahpeton, N.D., will be held Monday, Aug. 28, 1995, at 11 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Marvin L. Hartmann officiating. Interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Wahpeton.

Mr. Sturma died Thursday morning, Aug. 24, 1995, at St. Francis Medical Center, Breckenridge, Minn.

Visitation will be held today (Sunday) from 4-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Vertin-Munson Wahpeton Funeral Home West Chapel. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church Monday.

Casketbearers will be Larry Breuer, Clarence Breuer, Donald Holen, Wayne Dietz, Glen Cooksley and Gerald Marohl.

William John Sturma was born May 28, 1905, at Veblen, S.D., to Albert and Mary. (Hanzel) Sturma. He received his forma education there.

Bill moved to Wahpeton in 1922 where he worked on the railroad and for various construction firms within the area. IN October of 1923, he joined Company I, North Dakota National Guard Unit, in Wahpeton and served until 1939 when he joined the voluntary State Guard, serving for two years. On July 2, 1932, he married Palma Peterson at Wahpeton. In 1933, he began employment with the North Dakota State College of Science where he worked for 40 years in the Maintenance Department. He worked part-time for Bethel Lutheran Church as a custodian for about 20 years and several years full-time. His wife Palma died Feb. 25, 1980. On Dec. 17, 1986, he married Luella Breuer (Krogness) at Bethel Lutheran Church. She died May 29, 1991. Bill had been a resident of the Leach Home, Wahpeton, for several years, and for the past three years had been a resident of the Wahpeton Health Care Center.

Bill is survived by his two sisters; Doris Johnson, Lakewood, Ohio; Grace (Mrs. Lester) Vetter, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six step-daughters; Lorraine Baumann, Gardenia, Calif.; Diane (Mrs. Russell) Waldorf, International Falls, Minn.; Janice Weber, Wahpeton; Kathleen Herding, Madison, S.D.; Cynthia (Mrs. Mark) Mathys, Bismarck, N.D.; three stepsons: Lawrence (Beverly) Breuer, Sussex, Wis.; Clarence Breuer, Jr., Madison; Rodney (Lisa) Breuer, Rapid City, S.D.; 30 step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary (Hanzel) Sturma; his first wife, Palma, Feb. 25, 1980; and his second wife, Luella, May 29, 1991; and several brothers and sisters.
