Elon W. Sparks

Services for Elon W. Sparks, 80, Wahpeton will be Tuesday at 11 at United Methodist Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Stanley K. Mueller officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton. Mr. Sparks died Friday at St. Francis Hospital, Breckenridge.

Visitation is Monday afternoon and evening at Vertin's-Wahpeton East Chapel and at the church for the hour prior to services. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Monday in the chapel.

Elon W. Sparks was born Feb. 11, 1899 at Lynd, Minn. to Milo and Andrea (Engebretson) Sparks. He was raised in Braddock, N.D. and married Eunice Nichols in 1932. The couple farmed for several years near Braddock and later lived in Sioux City, Iowa. He worked at a meat packing plant. She died in 1946.

Mr. Sparks then moved to Waubon, Minn., and operated a resort. He married Gladys Pennington on Sept. 7, 1951 at Wolverton. The couple operated the resort until 1963 when they retired and moved to Wahpeton. He lived at the Wahpeton Rehabilitation Center for the past year.

He was a member of United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, a stepson, Dennis, Rolland, Calif.; four grandchildren, a great-granddaughter and several step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Casket bearers are Clifford Worner, Dorval Schmidt, Howard Lewis, Harold Langseth, Daryl Johnson and James Stone.
