George J. Schlener

George J. Schlener, 79, Wahpeton, died Sunday at St. Francis Hospital, Breckenridge. The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church, Wahpeton, the Rev. George Mehok officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening and Wednesday until 10:15 a.m. at Vertin's Wahpeton Funeral Home. There will be a rosary recited at 3 p.m. Tuesday by the Christian Mothers and the Foresters, and a Bible vigil at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

He was born April 27, 1900 at Mantador, the son of Frank and Magdalene (Wilm) Schlener. He attended local schools in Belford Township near Mantador. He married Ellen Mittage Feb. 5, 1922 at Mantador. After marriage, they moved to Wahpeton. He was employed at Cudahy's in Fairmount and by Otter Tail Power Co., working at the Kidder Station. In 1950, he began work with Twin City Roofing, Wahpeton, retiring in 1965. He later worked for the St. Paul Roofing, Co. in Wisconsin and was a custodian at Wil-Rich Manufacturing.

He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

He is survived by his wife, a son, Jack, Wahpeton; one daughter, Mrs. Lorin (Marjorie) Hanson, Fullerton, Calif.; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank, Denver, Colo.; and two sisters, Mrs. Tillie Burrill, Anaheim, Calif.; and Mrs. Mary Jacobs Powell, Wyo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, three brothers and three sisters.

Casket bearers will be Scott Hendrickson, Trever Speidel, Kermit Wateland, James Ostrum, Mark Ward and Charles Michels.
