Obituary
City Woman, 54, Dies From Effects of Saturday Fire
A Wahpeton resident, Mrs. E. O. Smith, died Saturday of asphyxiation resulting from a fire of undetermined origin at her home in Wahpeton.
Funeral services are to be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from Vertin’s-Wahpeton chapel
Beatrice M. Smith was born March 12, 1907, at Edmore, N.D., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Wing. She was a graduate of Edmore high school and the Dakota Business College at Grand Forks.
She was married Jan. 4, 1930, to Dr. E. O. Smith. They lived at Edmore until 1937 when they moved to Cavalier where the resided until 1950 when they moved to Wahpeton.
Mrs. Smith was a member of Wahpeton Methodist church and was past president of the W.S.C.C. of the church. She was Past Worthy Matron of the Cavalier Order of the Eastern Star Chapter and was a member of the Wahpeton O.E.S. chapter. Mrs. Simth was active in the Girl Scout program both at Cavalier and at Wahpeton.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. E. O. Smith, Wahpeton Osteopathic physician; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Patricia Jean) Shippe of South Gate, Calif., and Margaret M. Smith, a senior at Moorhead State College; her mother, Mrs. Otto Wing and a sister, Mrs. Harold (Gertude) Thompson, both of Lyndon, Ontario, Canada; another sister, Mrs. E. G. (Muriel) Peterson of Fergus Falls and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers are to be Elon Sparks, M. B. Zimmerman, Howard Lewis, Julian Szczur, John Peterka and Max Lauder.
Rev. Everett C. Owens will be the officiating clergyman. Mrs. Fred Brown will be organist.
