Obituary

John Stoltenow, longtime resident of Great Bend, Wahpeton

John (Jack) Stoltenow, 93, Wahpeton, died Monday, Jan. 27, 1992, at The Leach Home, Wahpeton. The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, with the Rev. Dr. Ernest Bartels officiating. Burial will be Fairview Cemetery, Wahpeton.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 3-8 p.m. at Vertin-Munson Wahpeton Funeral Home. There will be no prayer service. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.

John was born Oct. 28, 1898, near Great Bend, N.D., to Albert and Marie Stoltenow. He grew up and attended parochial school in Great Bend. He helped on the family farm. On Oct. 7, 1921, he married Hertha Medenwaldt at Hankinson. The couple lived and farmed near Great Bend for many years until moving to Wahpeton in 1946. He also worked as custodian at the high school and at Metropolitan Bank, both in Wahpeton. Hertha died on June 9, 1973. He continued to live in Wahpeton, and recently at The Leach Home.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

He is survived by a daughter, Mildred, and her husband, Jerome Meide, Wahpeton; a grandchild, Jerry and his wife, Sandy Meide, Wahpeton; two great-grandchildren, Kristie and Mark Meyer and their son, Eric, all Fargo; Greg and his wife, Darcie Meide, Wahpeton.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hertha, his parents, a brother, Albert, and a sister, Minnie Trittin.
