Leonard Stoltenow, 84, Wahpeton resident
March 11, 1915 - July 15, 1999
Leonard J. Stoltenow, 84, Wahpeton, N.D., died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center, Breckenridge, Minn. The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 19, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Alan R. Werth officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Vertin-Munson Wahpeton Funeral Home with a 7 p.m. prayer service. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Leonard John Stoltenow was born March 11, 1915, at rural Great Bend, N.D., to Herman J. and Anna (Muehler) Stoltenow. He was confirmed on March 25, 1915, at Great Bend and confirmed on April 1, 1928, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend. He received his formal education at Mooreton Township School, rural Great Bend. He then farmed with his parents and siblings in Mooreton Township. Leonard married Ruth Schubert on Oct. 22, 1939, at St. John's Lutheran Church of Belford, rural Great Bend, with Rev. Walter Cordts performing the ceremony. The couple farmed at rural Great Bend until their retirement in 1972. The couple moved into Wahpeton in 1970. For several years, Leonard worked the nigh shift at Bob's Fairway in Wahpeton. He also helped his son, Kenneth, on the farm.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Ruth Stoltenow, Wahpeton; one daughter, Carol Stoltenow, Wahpeton; two sons, Kenneth Stoltenow, Hankinson, N.D., and Darvin (Diane) Stoltenow, Plymouth, Minn.; one brother, Raymond (Carole) Stoltenow, Ada, Minn.; two sisters, Ruby Sedler, Hankinson, and Helen Bohn, Wahpeton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Clarence; and five sisters, Justina Radke, Della Brand, Lorine Stoltenow, Emma Quamme and Anna Niels.
