Obituary

Mrs. Thane dies; funeral Tuesday

Mrs. Joseph (Bernice) Thane, 84, of Wahpeton died Saturday at St. Francis Home where she had resided since July 1971. The funeral will be at 2 Tuesday in Vertin's-Wahpeton Chapel with the Rev. Stanley K. Mueller officiating.

Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening with a prayer service at 7:30 and Tuesday until time of service.

Bernice Steere was born Sept. 18, 1887, at Crystal, Minn., the daughter of James and Alice (Talcott) Steere. She was educated at Crystal and at Albian College at Ann Arbor. She taught in Sante Fe, N.M., before her marriage to Joseph Thane. The couple lived at Lajaro, Colo., until 1937 when they moved to Wahpeton where they farmed. Mr. Thane died Dec. 6, 1967. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wahpeton, Dwight Aid and was a past member of the Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by two sons, State Senator Russell T. Thane and Joseph Thane, both of Wahpeton; 3 grandchildren, Charles, Ronald and Kathleen Thane; and one sister, Mrs. Ruth Wetmore of Detroit, Mich.

Laurel Evenson will be the organist and Steve Wasteland will be the vocalist.

Casket bearers will be Raymond Evenson, Clayton Erickson, Roger Slotted, Alan Osmundson, Darrell Quake and Elwood Lund.

Interment was in Fairview Memorial Gardens.
