Obituary

Thurlow funeral held at Bethel

Services for Lloyd Thurlow, 87, Wahpeton, were Monday afternoon at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Marvin L. Hartmann officiating. Burial was in Fairview Memorial Gardens. He died Thursday in Fargo.

William Stanton Floyd Thurlow was born Nov. 24, 1910 at Glenfield, N.D., to William and Ohilda (Overson) Thurlow. He moved with his family as a child to Carrington, N.D. He attended schools there and later graduated from North Dakota State School of Science.

He married Tillie Brayko on Sept. 8, 1937 at Scobey, Mont. The couple lived there until 1939 when they moved to Wahpeton where he was employed at Arnold Olson Welding. In 1942 he began working with the Great Northern Railroad. At the time of his death was a locomotive engineer. In 1964 he started Thurlow Manufacturing. He held patents for two inventions. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and the Brotherhood of Locomotive engineers.

Survivors include his wife, five daughters and a son, Mrs. Bruce (Jean) Kuehn, Aurora, Colo.; Mrs. Philip (Judith) Achter, Aurora, Colo.; Mrs. Dennis (Joan) Madsen, West Fargo; Mrs. Gust (Jaraine) Mohs, Eames, Iowa; Mrs. Tom (Jacqueline) Simmer, Bismarck, N.D.; Bryan Thurlow, Wahpeton; five grandchildren, one sister and three brothers, Mrs. Hazel Nysted, Griffith, Ind.; Richard, Fargo; and Clinton and Clifford, both Carrington, N.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son.

Honorary casketbearers were Harold Krier, Dr. David Jaehning, Harvey Bisek, Gordon David, Lorenz Johnson, and Herbert McCollum. Active casketbearers were David Berg, Tom, Harry, and Joe Thurlow, Ralph Madsen, Dr. Curtis Mitskog, Rev. Bruce Vollevick and Elroy Cimbura.
