WAHPETON YOUTH DIES IN HUNTING ACCIDENT
A hunting accident claimed the life of William Thurlow, 17-year-old senior student at Wahpeton Senior High School Saturday.
Thurlow died at St. Luke's Hospital in Fargo about midnight Saturday, about three hours after he was accidentally shot in the head by a hunting companion about 4 1/2 miles southwest of Wahpeton.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Thurlow of Wahpeton, William was hunting rabbits Saturday with three other Wahpeton youths when the mishap happened.
Richland County Sheriff Earl Dosch said the fatal shot was fired about 9 p. m. He was treated at St. Francis Hospital before being rushed to Fargo.
Sheriff Dosch said the details of the accident are being withheld pending investigation. He stated, however, that the death was ruled an accidental shooting.
The other hunting companions were in the 15-16 age bracket. The fatal bullet was .22 caliber.
Funeral services will be at 2 Wednesday in Bethel Lutheran Church, Rev. Marvin L. Hartmann officiating.
William was born Nov. 1, 1949 at Breckenridge. He would have graduated with the class of 1967 this year. He was active in Bethel Lutheran Luther League and was also confirmed at Bethel.
He was participating in the Senior class play at school this year.
Surviving besides the parents are five sisters, Mrs. Bruce (Jean) Kuehn, Fargo; Mrs. Dennis (Joan) Madsen, Newport News, Va.; Judith, Jariane and Jacqueline, all at home; a brother, Bryan, at home; and his grandmother, Mrs. W. J. (Othilda) Thurlow, Carrington, N. D.
Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Jaehning, Steven Hoppert, William Woehrman, Edward Scott, Jr., James Oliver, Terry McCullough and Warren Meyer and other members of the 1967 class.
A prayer service will be held at 8 p. m. Tuesday at Vertin's Wahpeton Chapel.
