Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon from the Vertin funeral home at 2 o’clock with Rev. Walton officiating. Burial will be made in Fairview cemetery. Carl Frederick Vanselow was born in Germany May 26th, 1848. He served in the German army and received his honorable discharge in 1871. Leaving his home land, he went to Canada and resided in the Weyburn district, his post office address being Lidgett, located in the province of Saskatchewan, for 3 years, where he became a naturalized citizen and where he acquired property.
Later Mr. Vanselow came to Wahpeton and secured his United States citizenship papers in 1890. Vanselow was appointed special police in Wahpeton under the mayorship of the late James Purdon, serving the city in that capacity for many years.
Owing to ill health he, a few years later became a resident on the county farm. He had as his hobby the making of willow baskets and of fishing, spending many hours in these pastimes in his declining years. Vanselow was a man who made friends easily and was highly respected by all who knew him.
Old time friends are arranging for his funeral and burial. Pallbearers will be Henry Kraker, Wallace Morden, M.C. Voves, J. H. Dietz, C. J. Simmer and Ernest Nickel.
