Obituary

Hazel Wefel

Mrs. Edwin (Hazel) Wefel, 62, Wahpeton, died Sunday at her home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at United Church of Christ (Congregational), Wahpeton, with Rev. Stephen Hanning officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.

Visitation is this afternoon and evening (Wednesday) at Vertin's Wahpeton Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to services.

Hazel Olson was born July 6, 1917 to Nicolie and Sena (Hanson) Olson in Mooreton Township, near Mooreton. She went to local country schools and graduated from Dwight High School. She attended the North Dakota State School of Science Business Division.

She married Edwin H. Wefel Oct. 5, 1934 in Mooreton Township. They lived there and farmed until 1941 when they moved into Wahpeton. She was employed at Hager's Shoe Store, Breckenridge, and was manager of JCPenney's catalogue store for 17 years.

She was active in United Church of Christ, Clover Leaf Rebekah Lodge, Eagles Auxiliary and the auxiliary's drill team, Elkettes, Minnesota Central West Square Dance Callers, Southeast Region and the North Dakota State Square Dance Callers Association.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Hazel Ann Thorson, Pelican Rapids; two grandsons, and a brother, Harvey Olson, Grand Meadow, Va.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Casket bearers are Melvin Wefel, Dale and Lester Deike, C.E. Scott, Donald Stiller and Edward Hanson.
