Obituary
William Witte Services Held
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the First Evangelical United Brethren Church in Wahpeton for William Witte, 79, of Wahpeton who died Saturday morning at St. Francis Hospital after becoming suddenly ill at his home Friday evening. The Rev. Charles Ritter officiated. Interment was in the Garden of Christus in Fairview Memorial Gardens.
Organist was Mrs. Donald Gripentrog and vocalists were Mrs. Donald Heitman and Mrs. Charles Ritter.
William Witte was born April 24, 1888, at New Salem, N.D., the son of William and Jennie With. When he was eight years old he moved to Hector, Minn., where his parents farmed. He was raised and attended schools in that area.
He married Theresa Leach at Hector Jan 27, 1916. They moved to Perth, N.D., where they farmed for three years before moving to Addison, N.D. There he managed the Cargill Grain Elevator for 18 years prior to moving to Wahpeton in 1937. He was then the road superintendent for Cargill, Inc., until his retirement in 1953. The couple continued to live in Wahpeton and he was active until the time of his death. He was a member of the EUB Church. He is survived by his wife. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. A. W. Plachte and Dr. Lloyd Best. Active pallbearers were Chester Marquardt, Virgil Lee, Ed Loll, Rudy Beling, Walter Oster and James Carney.
Vertin’s-Wahpeton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
