Wahpeton Daily News, on Sunday, December 13th, 1992 (transcribed as written) ~ Morris Worner, farmer and businessman ~
Morris H. Worner, 77, Wahpeton, N.D., died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1992, at the Wahpeton Health Care Center. The funeral service will be Monday, Dec. 14, at 2 p.m. at the Evergreen United Methodist Church, Wahpeton, with the Rev. Kenneth T. Voas and the Rev. Ardell R. Aleson officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens in Wahpeton. Flag presentation will be conducted by the Hafner-Miller-Ross American Legion Post 20.
Visitation will be today (Sunday) from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. with a 5 p.m. prayer service at Frank Funeral Home in Wahpeton. There will also be visitation Monday from 8a.m. - noon at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Morris H. Worner was born Oct. 17, 1915, at Wahpeton to Oscar and Dorothy (Dehlendorf) Worner. He grew up in Great Bend and attended Great Bend Public School and graduated from Wahpeton High School and North Dakota State School of Science. He had been active in football at both schools.
Morris was united in marriage to Esther Bellin on Dec. 29, 1941, at Great Bend. In February of 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, serving in World War II. He was discharged in 1945. He returned to Great Bend and went into business with his father in the retail business and was also active in farming. After retiring from farming in 1963, the couple moved to Wahpeton where they purchased and operated the Gamble Store in Breckenridge for 10 years.
He was a member of the Evergreen United Methodist Church in Wahpeton, American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Rotary Club and loved hunting, fishing, golfing, and traveling.
Survivors are his wife, Esther, Wahpeton; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Joyce Worner, Breckenridge; a daughter and son-in-law, Delaine and Dean Ferkinhoff, Apple Valley, Minn.; two sisters, Alice (Mrs. Manville) Stoltenow, and Florence (Mrs. Harvey) Thiele, both Wahpeton; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Kathleen; and a brother, Oliver.
