Obituary

JOHN A. WALKER DROWNED IN RAINBARREL

John A. Walker, living on the West side of the city, was found by his wife about 1 o'clock Saturday morning with his body thrust into the rain barrel at their home, dead from drowning.

Mr. Walker was 76 years of age, an old soldier, and had lived with his family in the city for a number of years. He had been afflicted with dropsy for some length of time, and had been told by the physicians that nothing could be done to effect a cure. Rising from his bed about 12:30, he dressed and went out into the back yard. Mrs. Walker, becoming anxious when he did not return after a half hour, rose and followed him into the yard, and after searching for some time found him as stated above. Physicians were called, and neighbors' aid summoned, but it was of no avail, as Mr. Walker was dead - drowned.

It is not known in what manner he got into the rain barrel, whether he fell in or did the deed deliberately.

Mr. Walker is survived by his wife and six children, all grown.

The funeral was held Sunday from the Congregational church, Rev. Sewrey conducting the services. Funeral arrangements were in charge of R. F. Murphy.
