Obituary
Elmet Ward Rites Set Wednesday
Funeral services will be held at 2 Wednesday in the United Church of Christ in Wahpeton for Elmer Denniston Ward, 91, of Wahpeton. The Rev. William Dreyer will officiate. Miss Donna Forkner will be the organist and C. B. Cummins the vocalist. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. Mr. Ward, a former Dwight resident, died Saturday.
Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening at Vertin's-Wahpeton Funeral Home with a prayer service at 8 p.m.
Mr. Ward was born Oct. 29, 1877 at Newburg, N. Y., the son of William and Mantha Denniston Ward. In 1881, he came to Dwight with his parents. He homesteaded at Great Falls, Mont., in 1908 later returning to Dwight where he resided until 1958 when he retired and moved to Wahpeton. He has been a resident of the Wahpeton Rehabilitation Center since May 1, 1968.
He married Anna DeVries in 1908. She died in 1918. On March 17, 1920, he married Anna Larson Loeks who died in 1921. He married Myrtle Larson Nov. 15, 1924.
He served on the Mooreton school board and the board of the Richland County Oil Co.
He is survived by his wife, six sons and four daughters, Lester, Donald and Raymond, all of Mooreton, Ralph, Grace and Mrs. Robert (Karen) Schmidt, all of Minneapolis.
Marion and Mrs. Norman (Marlice) Fenske, both of Wahpeton, Warren of LaFay-ette, Colo., and Roy of West Fargo; a sister, Bertha Carnine of Gladstone, Ore.; 28 grandchildren and 13 great grand-children.
He was preceded in death by one son, Elwood, one grand-son, David, one brother and four sisters.
