Wm. H. Witt Dies Thursday Morning At Local Hospital
Funeral Services For Well Known Resident To Be Held From Immanuel Lutheran Church
Funeral Services for Wm. H. Witt, aged 67 years who died early Thursday morning at the Wahpeton hospital, will be held Monday afternoon from Immanuel Lutheran church at two o’clock with Rev. R. J. Becker officiating. Services will be held at the home at 1:30 p.m. preceding the church service.
Death occurred at 1:30 o’clock Thursday morning and followed two weeks treatment at the Wahpeton hospital and surgical treatment early last week. Wilhelm Heinrich Witt was born Oct. 26, 1869, in Macklenberg, Germany, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig Witt. He came to America with his parents as a lad five years old. The family settled first in New York state and it was there that he received his education and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. The family later moved to Belle Plain, Minn.
Mr. Witt came to North Dakota as a young man establishing his home in Barney township, where he later bought a farm and built a fine home place where he and his family continued to reside until 1925 when they moved to Wahpeton.
He was married Oct. 6, 1896 to Miss Minnie Hohenstern at the Belford Lutheran church. Mr. and Mrs. Witt celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary last fall at a gathering attended by a large concourse of friends and relatives.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Gust Simdon, Barney and Mrs. William Lundgren of Wahpeton and one son, Otto Witt, of Center township. There are eleven grandchildren.
Mr. Witt was affiliated with progressive political movements in the county. For the past few years he had served on the Seed and Feed Loan committee in the county and is well and favorably known to a large number of people in the county.
He is also survived by four daughters, Mrs. Louis Jentz of Hankinson; Mrs. John Schwann, Breckenridge; Mrs. Albert Lorenz, Hankinson and Mrs. Julius Rossow, Hankinson and three brothers; Charles and Frank Witt of Hankinson and Ernest Witt of Wadena.
Pallbearers will be six nephews of the deceased. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
