Obituary
Mary Woolsey-1898
Miss Mary E. Woolsey, daughter of J. and S. M. Woolsey, died Christmas morning, 1898, at the family residence in this city. The funeral service was conducted in the Congregational church, Tuesday afternoon, by Rev. A. T. Foster, pastor of the Methodist Church, assisted by Rev. Dr. Knox, President of the Red River Valley University. A quartette choir of young people sang some of the favorite hymns of the deceased. The pastor preached a short sermon, which was followed by an address from President Knox. Many friends were present at the funeral. A brother of the deceased was in from Sargent County, and an aunt and cousin from Fargo. The interment was made in the new cemetery.
Mary E. Woolsey was born May 13, 1881. She moved with her parents to Sargent County, North Dakota, in May 1887, where she remained until November 25, 1897. At that time she came to Wahpeton, and has since lived here until her promising young life was cut short by the relentless disease of consumption. In July, 1897, she made public profession of faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior; and since that time, according to the testimony of her pastor and friends, she has continued to exhibit the most beautiful fruits of a Christian character. Throughout her illness she remained sweet-tempered, patient, and uncomplaining; all who knew her feel that they have lost a friend. The family has the sympathy of a large circle of friends.
