Obituary
Mrs. J. J. Zentgraf Dies Here Early Saturday Morning
Pioneer of Great Bend Vicinity and Resident of Wahpeton Since 1919 Passes Away
Mrs. John J. Zentgraf, resident in Wahpeton since 1919, died suddenly at her home at 509 South Third street Saturday morning at 6:30. She lived only a few minutes following a paralytic stroke. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at one o’clock from the house and at 1:30 from the church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Rev. R. J. Becker will officiate.
Minnie Stoltenow was born December 3rd, 1866 at Brandenberg, Germany. She came to America with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Stoltenow, at the age of seven. The family settled in Wisconsin and came to North Dakota in 1878. Her marriage to John J. Zentgraf occurred at Great Bend, November 20, 1884.
Mr. and Mrs. Zentraf settled on a farm near Great Bend which they developed into one of the finest farms in Richland county. With her husband, Mrs. Zentgraf was instrumental in building up the community in which she lived. Mrs. Zentgraf came west in the pioneer days and experience many of the hardships of those days. She was generally recognized as a kindly neighbor and a prominent woman in her neighborhood.
In the year 1919, Mr. and Mrs. Zentgaf retired and moved to Wahpeton purchasing their home on south third street. Besides her husband, her children, as follows survive: Mrs. Mary Buck, Wahpeton; Mrs. Martha Buck, John Zentgraf. Adolph Zentgraf, all of Gull Lake, Sask. Can.; George Zentgraf of Fairmount, Robert J. Zentgraf of Browerville and Mrs. Caroline Mcchesney of Wahpeton, who are all here for the last rites. Also surviving are her father, John Stoltenow, three sisters; Mrs. Julius Boehning, Hanson; Mrs. Herman Gehler, Great Bend, Mrs. Herman Gast; three brothers, Albert Stoltenow, Herman Stoltenow and John Stoltenow, all of Great Bend; 39 grand children and 4 great grand children. Her mother passed away about four years ago
Pallbearers will be Ewalt Gehler, Clarence Stoltenow, Albert Stoltenow, Ernest Stoltenow, Herman Gast and Ewalt Boeling.
