William Radke of Breckenridge Dies

Prominent Wilkin Farmer Succumbs to Lingering Illness Tuesday

William Radke, prominent Wilkin county farmer and a resident of Breckenridge the past two and a half years passed away at his home Tuesday afternoon at five o’clock following a brief illness.

Mr. Radke was born September 14, 1872 in Schevelbein, Germany. In the year of 1831 he emigrated to America with his parents stopping in St. Paul. From there the Radke family moved to Breckenridge where he attended the local schools. He was baptized and confirmed in the German Evangelical Lutheran church of Wahpeton and remained a member of that huh a number of years.

Coming to Breckenridge Mr. Radke accepted a position as Great Northern fireman and engineer, which employment he retained for about ten years. Later he resigned his position to assist his father north of Wahpeton.

In 1901 Mr. Radke was married to Tena Glander of Wahpeton and began farming on the T. J. Elwood farm nine miles north of Breckenridge where he resided for twenty-seven years.

In 1928 Mr. and Mrs. Radke retired from active farming operations and moved to Breckenridge where they built a beautiful home, living in that city the past two and half years.

Mr. Radke is survived by his wife and two sons who are at home. Two brothers also survive and reside at Salem, Oregon and Paul Radke at San Francisco, Calif. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at one-thirty o’clock at the home. At two o’clock the services will be continued at the Bethel Lutheran church at Wahpeton. Rev. J. C. Wisnaes will officiate. Interment will be made in Fairview cemetery.

Pall bearers will be William Fisher, Henry Kosek, T. J. Czichalzki, Chester Gewalt, Glen Selby and Frank Hamerlik.
