CIVIL WAR VETERAN BURIED WITH MILITARY HONORS HERE Former Breckenridge Resident, Well Known Here, Died at Home at Hopkins, Minn. A firing squad from Company I of Wahpeton fired a volley in final salute to one of the veterans of the Civil War, when he was laid to rest Friday afternoon at Fairview cemetery. Jeremiah Raney, who formerly lived south of Breckenridge, died at his home in Hopkins, Minn., Monday. He was active and working up to the day before his death, which was unexpected and came instantly. In Hopkins he was “Dad” Raney to all who knew him. The body was brought to Wahpeton for burial beside his first wife in Fairview cemetery. Members of Company I acted as pall bearers and fired a volley as the casket was lowered into the grave, while the bugler played “Taps.” Deceased was eighty-three years of age. He was an active members of the Grand Army of the Republic, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and had during the last week before his death taken the Entered Apprentice degree in Masonry at Hopkins. The remains were accompanied to Wahpeton by the wife, who was the guest of Major and Mrs. T. J. Thompsen while in the city. Mrs. Raney is a sister of Solomon T. Stanley, a former resident of Wahpeton.
