Caroline E. Rich Dies Friday at Minneapolis, Minn.
Funeral Services Conducted Monday for Daughter of Original Local Townsite Proprietors
Miss Caroline E. Rich, who was one of the early pioneers at Wahpeton, passed away at her home in Minneapolis Friday night. She had been in poor health for some time but it was only a week ago that her condition became acute and she was confined to her bed.
The remains were brought to Wahpeton Sunday and the services were conducted this (Monday) afternoon by the Christian Science Society. Burial was made in Fairview cemetery.
Miss Rich is survived y he sister, Mrs. S. R. Falley; a nephew Mogan Falley; two nieces, Mrs. R. C. Michkils (Hazel Orcutt) who came to Wahpeton Monday from her home in Seattle and Mrs. J.E. Puckett (Jessie Orcutt) of Menomonie, Wis., and her cousin, Miss Helen Friedrich of Minneapolis.
Caroline E. Rich was born near Red Wing, Minn., in 1858 and was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M T. Rich who were the original settlers and townsite proprietors of Wahpeton. In early girlhood became blind following a severe illness and received her education at the Minnesota State School for the Blind in Faribault. After he graduation she remained a few years at Faribault to teach at the school. Then she came to Wahpeton to make her home permanently with her parents.
Miss Rich and her mother, the late Mrs. Elizabeth Rich made their home with Mrs. Failey until Mrs. Rich passed on in 1919 when Miss Rich moved to Minneapolis and make her home with Miss Friedrich. Miss Friedrich is well known in Wahpeton and she was here a few years as nurse to Mrs. Rich during her last illness.
