Herman Radig

Herman Radig, 90, Breckenridge, died Friday at St. Francis Hospital, Breckenridge. The funeral will be at 11 Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church, Breckenridge, with Rev. Frank V. Milo officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.

Visitation is this afternoon and evening (Monday) at Vertin's-Wahpeton Chapel with a prayer service at 8. There will be no visitation at the church for the hour prior to services.

Casket bearers are Delwood Berndt, Harold Fenske, Norlin Swenson, Willard Onchuck, Robert Deede and Robert Devine.

He was born April 6, 1890 at Lotts Creek, Iowa to William and Kathryn (Dreyer) Radig. He attended schools at Lotts Creek and married Alma Kressin on Oct. 22, 1916 at Peace Lutheran Church, Barney. They then moved to Lotts Creek where they farmed for four years. They then moved to Barney where they farmed in Danton Township, rural Wahpeton, and farmed there until 1940 when they moved to Connelly Township, rural Breckenridge, where they farmed, retiring in 1956.

His wife died May 28, 1979 and he continued to live in Breckenridge. He has lived at the Wahpeton Health Care Center the past two years.

He was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church, Breckenridge, and a member of the Lutheran Layman's League. He also served as Connelly Township Clerk for many years.

Survivors include five sons, Victor, Breckenridge, Edward, Long Beach, Calif., Elmer, Boulder City, Nev., Marcus, Bismarck, Herman James, Pembina; three sisters, Mathilda Kressin, Martha Brookins and Irene Vasbinder, all of Pasadena, Calif.; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Alma, three brothers, seven sisters and one grandchild.

The Garden of the Christus is located in the Memorial Gardens, which comprises the northern half of the cemetery.
