E. V. VDELL DEAD.

Bright Young Newspaper Man Dies at Rochester, Minn.

E. V. Udell died at the Hospital at Rochester, Minn., Monday night. The body was brought to Wahpeton and was buried at Fairview cemetery Thursday afternoon. The funeral services were conducted by the K. P. Lodge, of Wahpeton, of which Mr. Udell was a member.

Eugene Victor Udell was born at Rantoul, Ill., Oct. 2, 1872, making him 30 years and 25 days of age at the time of this death. Mr. Udell was reared in Rantoul, where he lived with his parents until May 1, 1900, when he was married to Miss Mabel Stockdale, of Thomasboro, Ill. He was engaged in the railroad service at Rantoul until 1893, when he moved to Golden, Colo., where he was employed as cashier for the Union Pacific R. R. Co., serving four years. At the end of that time he returned to Illinois, engaging in the newspaper business. In 1899 he moved with his family to Wahpeton where he was employed as cashier at the N P depot. Later he moved to New York Mills, Minn., where he was agent for the N. P. R. R. and also conducted a newspaper. In the fall of 1901 he again moved to Wahpeton and was employed at the Richland County Gazette office until spring when he purchased the Wilkin County Gazette, at Breckenridge, which he published until a week or tow before he died.

A few weeks ago he took charge of the Wahpeton Times but was taken will soon after. He was of a very ambitious nature, always looking for an opportunity to advance himself, was always perfectly healthy until last spring, when he complained of stomach trouble which developed into an acute form two months ago. Two weeks ago he was taken to Rochester, Minn., where he received the attention of the chief surgeon, Dr. Chas Mayo. Being too weak to undergo an operation, all help was given him possibly which was no avail.

Eugene Udell leaves a wife and two children, Davenant, age seven, Hugh Maurice, age one and one-half years, father and mother, Edwin J and Helen M. Udell, of Rantoul, Ill., four brothers, R. S. of Brainerd, B. B., of Chicago, P. L., Breckenridge, J. L. Udell, of Rantoul, and one sister, Ruth, of Rantoul, to mourn his loss.

He was a member of the K P Woodman and Royal Neighbor lodges, and during his residence here made many friends with the business men.
