WHILE ON VISIT HERE FROM PORTLAND, ORE.
Vacation of Young Man, Well Known Here, Ends in Tragedy This Morning
Walter O. Ulsaker, thirty, a visitor with his mother, Mrs. O. K. Ulsaker, and sister and family, Mrs. Oscar Erickson, died this (Monday) morning after a brief illness. Funeral services will probably be held from the Bethel Lutheran church at 2 p.m. Thursday with Rev Wisnaes officiating. Mr. Ulsaker is from Portland, Ore., and was visiting with home folks for the first time in nine years, it being the first vacation that he has had of sufficient length to permit a visit.
Mr. Ulsaker arrived in Wahpeton last Tuesday. He contracted a cold on his way here from Lewiston, Mont., where he had visited a brother, Oscar, who is an attorney there. Wednesday, he was taken down with a slight case of grip. Knowing that he had leakage of the heart since a boy, care was taken to prevent any serious illness.
In spite of all efforts, Walter Ulsaker was taken fatally ill Sunday evening with inflamation of the heart and passed away at seven Monday morning. His brother, Walter, of Minneapolis, who had driven up to visit with Walter during his stay in Wahpeton, had left that morning believing that Walter was on the road to recovery. Mr. Ulsaker had taken Margaret and Ruth Erickson with him to visit their cousins in Minneapolis.
Walter Oswald Ulsaker was born in Wahpeton November 11, 1911. He went to school in Wahpeton, attending both the grade, high school and Science school here. He discontinued his studies to go with the Shell Oil company, with which company he worked for five years. He then joined the Bell Telephone organization and was an employee at the time of his death.
Walter Ulsaker was very well known in Wahpeton. A number of personal friends and chums as well as friends of the family mourn his passing. The tragedy of his death, which ended a looked-forward-to visit, leaves a pail of gloom over the community. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. O. K. Ulsaker, of Wahpeton, Oscar, of Lewiston, Mont., Carl, of Fort Benning, Georgia, Lawrence of Minneapolis, and Mrs. Oscar Erickson of this city. All of the family are expected to be here for the funeral. Interment will be in Fairview cemetery in the family lot. The sincere sympathy of the community is extended the bereaved family at the loss of such a fine young man in the prime of his life.
