Obituary
Darwin Eugene Bliss was born March 17, 1926 at Fremont, Ohio, the son of Charles F. and Sarah (Hallowell) Bliss. He grew up in Fremont, where he graduated from Fremont Ross High School. He served in the US Navy during WWII, from February 1944 to July of 1946, where her received the World War II Victory Medal, European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal and American Campaign Medal. He returned to the Fremont area where he worked for Great Western Sugar Company. He was united in marriage to M. Joan Richter on September 27, 1947 at Russell, Kentucky. Darwin was called back into the service in 1951 during the Korean War. In 1962, the family moved to Brighton, CO, where he continued to work in the sugar industry. They moved to Gering NE, in 1964 and Fort Morgan, CO, in 1966. In 1973, they moved to Wahpeton where Darwin was factory manager for the new Minn-Dak Farmers Co-op in Wahpeton,, ND. He retired in 1992, and entered St. Catherine's Living Center in 2003.
Darwin was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, former member of Elks, Golden K, Wahpeton VFW and American Legion ND Safety Council and 10 year Boy Scout Volunteer. Darwin received his 40 year award from American Society of Sugar Beet Technologists and in 1991 received Minn-Dak Hall of Fame Award.
Darwin is survived by wife, Joan, Wahpeton; five children, Darwin (Linda) Bliss, Jr., Holbrook, MA, Cheryl Bliss, Arvada, CO, Terry (Joan) Bliss, Plymouth, MN, Diane (William) Kubischta, Sachse, TX, Carol (Daniel) Winter, West Fargo, ND; his brother, Perry Bliss, Fremont, OH; three sisters, Aurelia Dienes, Sandusky, OH; Marilyn Frank, Huron, OH, Kaye Bower, Oregon, OH; eight grandchildren, Timothy Bliss, Holbrook, MA, Thomas and David Bliss, Plymouth, MN, Jennifer and Sarah Kubischta, Sachse, TX, Melisha, Megan and Matthew Winter, West Fargo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Mark; his brother, LeRoy; and two sisters, Eileen Mellow and Janet Kiesel.
