Obituary
Wayne was born February 12, 1943 at Breckenridge, MN, the son of Elmer and Martha (Grotluschen) Berndt. He attended Wahpeton schools and graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1961. He attended NDSSS, upon graduation he accepted a position with the Fargo Forum as a pressman. On September 29, 1963 he married Judy Brown at United Methodist Church in Breckenridge and the couple resided in Fargo. In 1977 Wayne became disabled and moved to Wahpeton in 1980.
Wayne was an independent and sometimes a stubborn person; characteristics which would help him stay active and involved in his endeavors, despite being a paraplegic. His focus in life was his family, the outdoors and nature. He was an avid wood worker, making many birdhouses and at one time he refurnished old furniture. He also had enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Wayne is survived by his two daughters, Lisa Berndt, Fargo; Leslie (Rock) Ludwick, Fargo; his mother Martha Berndt, Wahpeton; his sister Yvonne (Jim) Merrill, Clarkston, WA; two brothers, Larry (Cheryl) Berndt, and Rick Berndt, both Wahpeton; five grandchildren: Nicole (Daniel) Genz, Ethan Kjelland; Krystal, Mallory and Clay Ludwick; a great granddaughter, Mahaleia Genz; a great grandson due in May, Jamin; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer.
