Obituary

Marjorie Bliss

September 1, 1929 — July 12, 2015

Marjorie Joan Bliss was born on September 1, 1929 in Ithaca, Michigan to Donald and Lois (Powers) Richter. In 1941 her family moved to Fremont, Ohio where she grew up and graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1947. Joan was united in marriage to Darwin Bliss on September 27, 1947 in Russell, Kentucky. They lived in Fremont until Darwin's work in the sugar industry took the family to Brighton, Colorado in 1962, Gering, Nebraska in 1964, and Fort Morgan, Colorado in 1966.

In 1973, the family moved to Wahpeton where Darwin was the plant manager for Minn-Dak Farmer's Coop. They especially enjoyed traveling around to visit their children and grandchildren. Many summers the grandkids from all over the country would gather and spend several weeks in their grandparents' backyard at Camp Bliss. Darwin passed away on December 23, 2006 and Joan continued to live in Wahpeton until 2010 when she moved to Fargo, North Dakota to be closer to family.

Joan was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and volunteered working in the church's kitchen. She was a long time active member of BLCW and Circle One. Joan was a member of St. Francis Auxiliary and volunteered at the gift shop for 29 years.

She enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles, and was known for her unbelievable Christmas cookies.

Joan is survived by her children, Darwin (Linda) Bliss, Jr, Holbrook, Massachusetts; Terry (Joan) Bliss, Plymouth, Minnesota; Diane Kubischta, West Fargo, North Dakota; Carol (Daniel) Winter, West Fargo, North Dakota; her grandchildren, Timothy Bliss, Holbrook, Massachusetts; Thomas (Meghan) Bliss, Edina, Minnesota; David Bliss (Katy Whiting), Austin, Texas; Jennifer (Alex) Baptista, McKinney, Texas; Sarah Kubischta, Sachse, Texas; Melisha (Joe) Vannett, Moorhead, Minnesota; Megan Winter, Minneapolis, Minnesota; her three great grandchildren, Alison and Madison Bliss, and Brennen Vannett; her brother, Richard (Sandra) Richter, Battle Lake, Minnesota; her sister-in-law, Ida Richter, Fremont, Ohio; and her brother-in-law, Gerald Shannon, Wahpeton, North Dakota.

She was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Lois Richter, her husband Darwin Bliss Sr, her daughter, Cheryl Bliss, her infant son Mark, her grandson Matthew Winter, her brother Larry Richter, her sister Jacquelyn Shannon, and her infant sister Sharon Richter.
