Obituary

Florence Sophie Brendel

December 4, 1922 — August 6, 2016

Florence Sophie Brendel, 93, a resident of Fergus Falls, formerly of Breckenridge, died Saturday, August 6, 2016, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.

Florence was born on December 4, 1922, to Joseph and Mary (Reiber) Lockman in Kent. She grew up and attended school in Kent. Over the years, she worked at various places in Breckenridge, including Uncle Jim’s Café, St. Francis Nursing Home and Altstatt Drug.

On February 28, 1945, Florence married Lawrence Brendel. They made their home in Breckenridge where they continued to live and raise their family. In 1996, Florence and Lawrence moved to Perham and later to Fergus Falls. Lawrence died on March 15, 2003.

Florence was an avid walker, walking every day, sometimes twice a day, when she could. She loved to cook and bake for her family, no special occasion necessary. She enjoyed playing cards with friends and family. Many games of whist and rummy were played over the years. She also truly enjoyed the dogs they had over the years and their companionship. They definitely were members of the family. But her greatest joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the time spent with them. Even in her last days, they could bring a smile to her face.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence Brendel; and her sister, Frances Drewlow.

Florence is survived by a son, James (Peggy) Brendel of Alexandria; a daughter, Sandy (Duaine) Miranowski of Underwood; a step-son, Gary Brendel of Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren, Chad Brendel of Evergreen, CO, Todd Brendel (Jody Bettin) of Park Rapids, Jennifer (Brad) Neznik of Moorhead and Lisa (Jay) Panzer of Grand Forks, ND; three great-grandchildren, Dawson, Ava and Liam Neznik; and three step-great-grandchildren, Braden, Evan and Kasen Panzer; and several nieces and nephews.
