Obituary
Edward A. DeVries
Edward A. DeVries, 82, Wahpeton, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, at his home. The funeral will be at 4 Saturday at United Methodist Church, Wahpeton, Rev. Norman Winkelman officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton. Visitation is Friday afternoon and evening with a prayer service at 7:30 and until 2 p.m. Saturday at Vertin's-Wahpeton Funeral Home Chapel. There will also be visitation at the church for the 30 minutes prior to the service.
Honorary casket bearers will be Arnold Peterson, Walter Loff, Ervin Dierks, Lloyd Keech, William Walker, Frank Nelson, Aldron Jones, and Donald Merchant.
Active casket bearers will be grandsons, Michael, Bradley, Terry, and Paul Salquist, Dean DeVries and Harvey Johnson.
He was born Jan. 29, 1901 at Elks Point, S.D., to Jacob and Gesina (Dierks) DeVries. He moved with his parents to near Foxhome where he attended school. His family then moved to Dwight where he also attended school. They then moved to Ibsen Township where he farmed with his family. He later farmed with his family. He later farmed north of Mooreton with his brother, Henry. He married Mildred Brownell Nov. 15, 1927 at Breckenridge. They continued to live on the farm until 1930 when they moved to Galchutt where they farmed. In 1942 the moved to a farm north of Galchutt residing there until 1967 when they retired and moved to Wahpeton.
He was a member of United Methodist Church and the Wahpeton Eagles.
Survivors include his wife, twin children, Dale, Wahpeton, and Donna Salquist, Fargo; seven grandchildren, two-great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. William (Katherine) Blume, Wadena, Minn.; and Mrs. Lena Pelvit, Breckenridge.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
