Minnie Engen

Mrs. Nels P. (Minnie) Engen, 97, Missoula, Mont., formerly of Wahpeton, died Wednesday, Nov. 25 at Missoula. The funeral will be at 2 Saturday at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Marvin L. Hartmann officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Wahpeton.

Visitation is this afternoon and evening (Friday) at Vertin's-Wahpeton Funeral Home Chapel and at the church for the hour prior to the service.

Minnie Rakstad was born Dec. 9, 1884 at Fuldon, Minn., to Nels N. and Anna (Nelson) Rakstad. She was raised in the Fuldon-Vining area. She moved to Wahpeton as a young woman where she worked. She married Nels P. Engen in 1908 at Wahpeton. They lived there where her husband operated the Dray Line and he hauled mail. He died March 11, 1957. She continued to live in Wahpeton until 1974 when she moved to Missoula to live with a son.

She was a member of Bethel Church and a long-time member of the American Lutheran Church Women.

Survivors include three sons, Roy, Missoula; Woodrow, Hendersonville, N.C.; Arnold, Billings; three daughters, Mrs. Ed (Bernice) Hoverman, Breckenridge; Mrs. Lawrence (Frances) Olsen, Duluth, Minn.; Mrs. Gordon (Phoebe) Johnson, Missoula, Mont.; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; a brother Helmer Rakstad, Vining; and a sister, Martin Dagnil Linrud, Vining.

She was preceded in death by her three sisters, a brother and an infant son.

Casket bearers will be James and Larry Olson, Phillip and Lynn Hoverman, Gerald Mohs, and Dana Pazdernik.
