Obituary
Phyllis Celeste Gripentrog was born April 11, 1919, at Regal, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota to John and Mathilda (Schwartz) Manz. She received her formal education in Regal and Paynesville, MN.
She married Donald M. Gripentrog on June 15, 1939, at the Evangelical Church in Paynesville, MN. The couple moved to Menomonie, WI, Paynesville, MN and then moved to Wahpeton. Phyllis operated the Chakinkapa Park Souvenir Store with the help of her family for 3 years until it closed. She worked at the Wahpeton Circle of Nations School as an instructor in music for 5 years. Donald passed away November 26, 1999, Phyllis continued to live in her home until May of 2007, when she entered St. Francis Nursing Home, Breckenridge, MN.
Phyllis was a member of Evergreen United Methodist Church, past member of Aulde Fortnightly Club, past organist at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Wahpeton, and past chairman and worker for the Red Cross Bloodmobile. Phyllis enjoyed quilting, gardening and cooking (her caramel rolls were her family's favorite).
Phyllis is survived by her fours sons and their wives and their children (12 grandchildren), Jon (LeAnn) Gripentrog, Willmar, MN, Mitchell (Carolyn) Gripentrog, Willmar, David (LaRae) Gripentrog, Wahpeton, Clark (Delaura) Gripentrog, Wahpeton; 12 grandchildren, J. Chad (Linda Maiers) Gripentrog, Alexandria, MN, Todd (Shani) Gripentrog, Plymouth, MN, Gina (Jody) Evenson, St. Peter, MN, Michelle (Cory) Morrow, Norcross, MN, Joy Gripentrog, Eden Prairie, MN, David (Colleen) Gripentrog II, Breckenridge, Allan Gripentrog, Wahpeton, Stewart (Joyce) Gripentrog, Wahpeton, Bradley (Roxie) Gripentrog, Shakopee, MN, Renee (Linus) Zach, Rosholt, SD, Rebecca (Matthew) Pederson, Shakopee, Wayne (Rhonda) Gripentrog, Wahpeton; 25 great-grandchildren; her sister, Elaine Newhouse, Sherwood, ND; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald, Nov. 16, 1999; and 3 sisters, Bernice Tweedy, Darlene Manz, and an infant sister, Leona.
