Obituary
Doris Lena Gutzmer was born April 26, 1921 near Great Bend, ND, the daughter of John and Lena (Gehler) Stoltenow. Doris was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend, ND. She grew up and attended rural school near Great Bend and graduated from Wahpeton High School. She was united in marriage to Elroy A. Gutzmer on May 30, 1940. The couple lived and farmed in Summit Township. Doris raised her family and worked for Sears in Wahpeton. In her retirement she provided food demonstrations at EconoFoods in Wahpeton. Elroy died December 26, 2004. In 2005 she entered St. Francis Nursing Home, Breckenridge, MN, and was the first patient to enter the new St. Francis Nursing Healthcare Campus; cutting the ribbon to enter the new home.
Doris was an active member of Zion United Methodist Church, Great Bend, and was currently a member of Evergreen United Methodist Church, Wahpeton. She was a member of an area homemakers club and enjoyed singing in a trio with Al and Alice Stoltenow.
Doris is survived by her two children, Judy McLeod, North St. Paul, MN and Gary (Connie) Gutzmer, Wahpeton; five grandchildren, Cheryl (Rich) Duysen, Moorhead, MN, Curt (Lynette) McLeod, Vadnais Heights, MN, Troy (Charlotte) Gutzmer, Breckenridge, Lynn (Shana) Gutzmer, Wahpeton, Beth (Dan) Kiebe, rural Willow City, ND; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters, Emily Keenan, Oakes, ND, Art (Inez) Stoltenow, Litchville, ND, Elaine Hentz, Hankinson, ND, and Gilbert (Ruth) Stoltenow, Breckenridge.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elroy; and four brothers and two sisters.
