Marcelle Horton

December 3, 1920 — April 20, 2015

Marcelle Anna Marie Horton, 94, Breckenridge, MN passed away on Monday, April 20, 2015 at CHI St. Francis Health. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 2, at 11:00 AM at Breckenridge Lutheran Church, Breckenridge, MN with Rev. Mark Manning officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton, ND. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.

Marcie was born on December 3, 1920 in Comstock, MN to Oscar and Jessie (Askegaard) Reitan. She graduated from Comstock High School in 1937. She then went on to Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and graduated in 1941 with a degree in English and Latin. Marcie then taught English in Barnesville, MN and Park Rapids, MN.

On May 27, 1944, Marcie married James A. Horton. She taught 8th Grade English in the Wahpeton school system from 1964 to 1989. She played the organ at Bethel Lutheran Church for sixty years. She also played organ part-time at Breckenridge Lutheran Church and at the local nursing homes.

Marcie is survived by her four children, Judith Gregory, Milton, Ontario, Colleen (Don) Koskey, Princeton, MN, Robert (Greta) Horton, Glastonbury, CT, and Tim (Kathy) Horton, Anchorage, AK; her six grandchildren, Tania Gregory, Nicole Holmes, Victoria McGlynn, Brian Koskey, Eric Horton, Kari Horton; and her three great-grandchildren, Jasper Zierfuss, Jackson Holmes, Sofia Holmes; and her brother-in-law, Cliff Gronneberg.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Jessie Reitan, her husband, James A. Horton in 2007; her two sisters, Evelyn Holth, Cornelia Bachman; her brother, Pernell Reitan.

The Garden of Prayer is located in the Memorial Gardens, which comprises the northern half of the cemetery.
