Obituary

Lamar was born November 14, 1925, in Colfax Township, ND, the oldest of 6 children, to William and Ethel (Rieger) House. He grew up and attended country school near Colfax, ND. As a young teenager, Lamar's father passed away and he shouldered the responsibilities of supporting his mother and younger siblings. He joined the US Army in 1951 and served during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge in 1953, Lamar worked various jobs around the Fargo area; among his favorites were his years working as a Trackman for the Great Northern Railroad, in Prosper, ND. His last few years were spent at Villa Maria Nursing Home where he received many hugs and devoted care. Lamar's family wishes to thank the staff of Villa Maria and the VA Hospital, for their genuine kindness during his stay and the compassion shown after his passing.

Lamar loved to read and had a captive audience when telling jokes. He was a wildlife enthusiast. He looked forward to visiting with friends and family and was especially close to his 3 year old great-nephew, Peyton Riley. In his later years, he enjoyed watching the old westerns on T.V., visiting the fish aquarium and bird aviary at the Villa, and playing the piano with Peyton. Lamar was a kind and gentle man who was loved by all who knew him.

Lamar is survived by a brother, Robert (Nancy) House, Sr. of New Ulm, MN, and his sister, Fay (Rob) Lindsey of Greenwood, IN; his nieces, Jeanette (Norm) Orbeck of Battle Lake, MN, Elaine Terhune of Richville, WI, Betty Jean Lindsey of Greenwood, IN, Mary (Leon) Ludewig of New Ulm, MN and Melissa (Michael) Bauder of Fargo, ND; his nephews, Robert (Jackie) House, Jr. of Ramsey, MN, and Joseph (Melanie) House of Grand Meadow, MN; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Lamar was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ethel; his brothers, Laverne and William; his sister, Marion Brendel, and a niece, Kristi Jo House.
