Obituary
William Hektner
William Hektner, 80, Breckenridge, died Monday, May 3 at St. Francis Hospital, Breckenridge. The funeral will be at 2 Thursday at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, Rev. Marvin L. Hartmann officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.
Visitation will be this afternoon and evening (Wednesday) at Vertin's-Wahpeton Funeral Home Chapel and at the church for the hour prior to the service.
He was born Sept. 13, 1901 at Mooreton to John and Inga (Sether) Hektner. He was raised at Mooreton and attended local schools. He also attended North Dakota State University at Fargo. He married Olga Huss Sept. 30, 1933 at Fergus Falls. They farmed at Mooreton until 1944 when they moved to Wahpeton. He was employed as a heating engineer at the North Dakota State School of Science. He retired in 1970 and later moved to Breckenridge.
He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, the Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Association and the Richland County Historical Society.
Survivors include his wife Olga, two brothers and three sisters, Joel, Emelia and Clara Hektner, all of Canton, Ohio; and Gerhart, Pelican Rapids, Minn., and Mrs. Hannah Nauman Nilsen, Stone Ridge, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, two sisters and a brother.
Casket bearers will be Carleton and Clinton Likness, Vernon and Donald Hektner, Ronald Thom and Alvin Eckre.
