Obituary

George James dies at ago 70

George M. James, 70, Wahpeton, a former Wahpeton businessman, died Wednesday, March 26, 1986 at his home.

The funeral will be Saturday, at 2 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton with Rev. Marvin. L. Hartmann officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.

Visitation will be this afternoon (Friday) and this evening at Vertins Wahpeton Funeral Home Chapel. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held at chapel until 11 a.m. and at the church prior to the service on Saturday. Presentation of the American Flag will be by the Wahpeton American Legion.

George Mathew James was born April 30, 1915 at Kent, Minn., to Frank A. and Lena (Bauer) James. He was raised and attended school at Kent. He moved with his family to Breckenridge and later to Wahpeton. He worked as a carpenter for some time and later began working for Otter Tail Power Company in 1937 at the Kidder Station. He married Juanita Hopkins on Oct. 20, 1940 at Milnor. They lived in Wahpeton following their marriage.

Mr. James served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his discharge he began working for Otter Tail Power Company as a lineman. He retired in 1964 as a foreman of a Division Engineering crew. He and his wife also operated the Del Rio Cafe and candy shop in Wahpeton until 1974.

He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and the Wahpeton American Legion. Survivors include his wife, one son, David, Eden Prairie, Minn.; and one daughter, Mrs Gordon (Leanna) Hudson, Walcott. He is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. Leona Mills, Vergas, Minn.; Mrs. Glen (Dolly) Raftevold, Wahpeton; Mrs. Lloyd (Blanche) Manock, Wahpeton; Mrs. Lloyd (Millie) Thomson, Breckenridge, and five grand-children.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
