Obituary
Myron Koppang, 72
Myron J. Koppang, 72, Wahpeton, N.D., died Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 8 at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, with the Rev. Gary Mikkelson officiating.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service Friday, March 7 at Willow Creek Chapel (920 3rd Ave N), Wahpeton; also, visitation one hour prior to service on Saturday at the church.
Burial will be held at Fariview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.
Myron John Mopping was born Feb. 18, 1936, at Portland, N.D., to Christian and Nora (Grinde) Koppang. He graduated from Mayville High School and Mayville State University and received his master's degree from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, N.D. On June 17, 1961, he married Judith Ust at Portland.
Myron taught school in the Sykeston/Carrington, N.D., school system and in 1966 they moved to Wahpeton where Myron worked at North Dakota State College of Science for 31 years. He was an instructor, the Dean of the Business Division, and later as Vice-President of Business Affairs.
He was in scouting for 26 years, primarily as Scout Master. He received the Silver Beaver Award in 1985 for his distinguished service to youth. He received the Lamb Award in 1995 for his service to the Lutheran church and its youth through Boy Scouts of America. Myron was involved in the Kinship program for many years, active volunteer in the food pantry program and involved in the Reading Program at Central Elementary School; and started the card playing for the residents at St. Catherine's Living Center, Wahpeton. After retirement he entered into the political arena serving in the North Dakota House of Representatives from 1999 to 2002. He served on the Wahpeton School Board for many years, was a member of Kiwanis club for many years, Golden K club for many years, taught Sunday school and was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church.
He is survived by: his wife, Judy, of 46 years, Wahgpeton; three sons and daughter, Michael (Teresa) Koppang, Prior Lake, Minn., Connie Walters, Plymouth, Minn., Bruce (Holly) Koppang, Plainfield, Ill., Kevin (Jane) Koppang, Wahpeton; nine grandchildren, Kimberly, Katie, and Kyle Koppang, Nicholas and Megan Walters, Christian and Brooke Koppang, Connor and Blake Koppang; his brother, Alton Koppang, Bismarck, N.D.; three sisters, Audrey (Lloyd) Erickson, Mayville, Helen Strand, Portland, Solveig (Marlin) Flaten, Portland; three sisters-in-law, Phyllis Koppang, Adams, N.D., and Marilyn Koppang, Mayville, Francis Koppang, Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; three brothers, Victor, Gordon and Richard; and his brother-in-law, Ardell Strand.
