Obituary

Chester LaMonte Larson was born in Sheyenne, North Dakota on January 19, 1935, the son of Chester P. and Judith (Neset) Larson. Chet attended and graduated from Sheyenne High School. He continued his education at Valley City State University graduating in 1958. He went on to attain his Masters Degree from the University of North Dakota in 1962. Chet served in the United States Army from January 28, 1954, until January 5, 1956, serving in Korea. On November 28, 1954, he married Ruth Huffman at Minnewaukan, North Dakota. Chet began his career in education as an instructor at McHenry, North Dakota. He served as school superintendent in Cathay, Carpio and Sargent Central (Forman) North Dakota. He was employed by the North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton, ND and served as Personnel Director for 15 years, until his retirement in 1993. Chet was well known in the region in the Crop Insurance Industry, as an agent and adjuster for 42 years.

Chet was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church, serving on various boards, Elks, Masonic Lodge, Shriners, Eagles, and American Legion. Chet enjoyed his winters in Arizona, traveling, and he especially enjoyed his family and grandchildren.

Chet is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ruth Larson, Wahpeton, ND and 5 children; Jeanne (Joe) McCurnin, Mason City, IA, Donald (Becky) Larson, Austin, TX, Mary (Tim) Lunneborg, Wahpeton, ND, Steve Larson, Folsom, CA and Sue (Clay) Oas, Austin, TX, 13 grandchildren; Ryan, Oliver and Michael McCurnin, Carrie Delbecq; Sarah, Katherine, and Laura Larson; Jessica, Emily, and Alex Lunneborg; Emmett Larson; Adrik and Alena Oas; his mother, Judith Larson, Wahpeton, ND, and his sister, Mary Ellen (Tony) Hernandez, Fresno, CA.

He was preceded in death by his father, Chester P. Larson, and his grandson, Michael Larson.
